Despite many technologic leaps, minimal access surgical training has stayed pretty much unchanged for over a century. Minimal Access Surgeons in training usually have had to gain operative experience through supervised trial and error on real patients. This approach makes minimal access surgical training completely determined by the particular case load, prolongs surgical training, and compromises patients' safety. The building blocks for Minimal Access Surgical Fellowships exists to finance high quality fellowships in a variety of regions of surgery, including but not restricted to flexible endoscopy, minimal access surgery and other associated disciplines. Through a blinded application and review process, the building blocks will identify and distribute funds to qualified organizations based on criteria of excellence.
The Fellowship Foundation of World Association of laparoscopic surgeons will promote and support the continued availability of postgraduate surgical training opportunities of the most useful da Vinci robotic surgery. Robotic surgery can create a new medium for development of surgical skills through simulation of all operations that you can do through the robot. Surgeons can use surgical robots to practice operations on 3-dimensional, virtual-reality visual simulations and soft-tissue mixers recreate the textures of human tissues through force feedback which is also called as haptic feedback. Image-guided simulations will allow a vinci surgeons and gynecologist to rehearse procedures on 3-dimensional reconstructions from the anatomy of the actual patients who they intend to operate on the following day.
A candidate who want to learn da vinci robotic surgery must initially contact and affect the Department of Minimally Invasive Surgical Training Center at World Laparoscopy Hospital da Vinci robotic surgical Institute. Subsequently, a candidate must affect the scholarship program if they can manage by filling out the necessary application form, and send their CV and a letter of acceptance from WLH to the Scholarship Department at their respective university Central Office. Fellows will have protected here we are at research, and also have abundant research opportunities and mentorship. The fellow who want to take fellowship of international college of robotic surgeons should be expecting to publish 2-3 manuscripts by the end of the entire year, with focus on da Vinci robotic surgery. The fellow of international college of robotic surgeons will have the chance to attend and present his/her research at national meetings, in addition to attending two conferences of WALS. The Robotic Surgery Course includes 3 modules covering topics in various Robotic Surgery including Fundamentals, Simple and easy Advanced Surgical Procedures.
The Fundamentals module covers proper usage of the daVinci robot in different minimal access surgery. The Basic section includes transperitoneal radical prostatectomy, partial nephrectomy, pyeloplasty, and sacrocolpopexy, Gastric Bypass, Hysterectomy, Myomectomy surgical procedures. The objectives of this Mini-fellowship are to introduce surgeons, gynecologists and urologists to robot-assisted surgery. The training will focus on: safely understanding the basics of robot-assisted surgery by training around the Robotic Surgical Hands On exercises with a training curriculum and completing 20 hours of console time; transitioning the skills acquired using the daVinci Surgical System; observing the surgical support team to learn about OR setup, instrumentation, and troubleshooting techniques of robotic surgery.
The trainee go for hands on experience with conventional laparoscopic training of suturing and knotting skill followed by da Vinci robotic suturing skill. The rest of the period of the Mini-fellowship will be spent observing cases, for example prostatectomy, ovarian cystectomy and myomectomy with intracorporeal urinary diversion, nephrectomy, and partial nephrectomy, gastric bypass and fundoplication, depending upon their respective specialization. The forecast for robotic surgery is continued significant growth as it becomes the de facto standard in surgical procedures. With more than 900 da Vinci® Surgical Systems worldwide and 25% annual growth rates, the way forward for minimal access surgery is now found in 3D with the eyes of a robot. It is the mission of the international college of robotic surgeons to show robotic approaches to multiple sub-specialties to other teams in a highly efficient and price effective way. This intensive program at World Laparoscopy Hospital is made to allow the graduating fellow to possess advanced technical skills in laparoscopy, endoscopy, and robotic surgery to optimize patient outcomes with non-invasive surgical technique.
The fellowship also focuses of developing minimally invasive thinking processes such that the fellow, after graduation, can advance the way forward for non-invasive da Vinci robotic surgery. Research training at World laparoscopy hospital during Master in Minimal Access surgery course is focused on creative and dynamic innovation, study design and execution, and proper presentation. Because of the unique nature in accessibility of fully integrated laparoscopic gynae theatre and the da Vinci robot, WLH team are able to provide a robotic surgical training fellowship. The minimum expectation is always to perform Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomies unassisted for gynecologists. With respect to the trainee’s previous experience, expectations and patient availability more complicated procedures may be undertaken e.g sacrocolpopexies, lymphadenctomies and radical hysterectomies for gynecologists and fundoplication with various bariatric surgeries for surgeons. Urologists will also acquire all the essential skill for the use of robot in varios urological procedure including radical prostectomy.
