Dear Dr Neeta Age is not a bar to learn laparoscopic surgery. For laparoscopic surgery you are still young. At this age you need to do little unlearn and relearn. A great learning curve ascends through laboratory didectic Hands On Laparoscopic training, attending structured instructional laparoscopic course, performing surgeries under supervision of the qualified mentor, combined with performance of cases that are properly selected. The perfect training modality requires acquiring basic laparoscopic skills inside a dry and wet skills laboratory under supervision of a qualified laparoscopic surgeon, simultaneously you should also getting the laparoscopic skills under the guidance of any mentor then finally doing the procedures independently. Various pelvic trainers like mechanical trainer, hybrid trainer, and virtual reality trainer from the skills laboratory do help the novices to get the essential laparoscopic skills and also the video eye-hand coordination. Specialized models for individual procedures could be easily devised, and increase the trainee’s confidence and aid in troubleshooting just prior to the real laparoscopic procedure on your patient. Mentoring is really a key component associated with any laparoscopic training program. A trainee may be mentored in such a way of instructional videotape and courses, mutual mentoring, supervised clinical training, telesurgical mentoring, and proper case selection; nevertheless, the obstacles with mentoring lie in commitment from the two trainee as well as the mentoring surgeon. As surgeon or gynecologist, we love everything we do, so we undertake it so it will be the most effective surgical education which requires passion and desire for excellence. |

Thanks for the information provided on the net about laparoscopic surgery training in your hospital. I am a bit worried because little or no information is available about pediatric surgery training. To say the least, one would like to know the prospectus of pediatric surgery training for the F.MAS and D. MAS. I am a lecturer and Honorary consultant to one of the leading teaching hospitals in Nigeria with special interest in pediatric minimal access surgery. I will be looking forward to receiving detail information about the prospects for pediatric surgery. |

Dear Dr. Ademola Talabi Minimal Access Surgery is skill and not the specialization and the steps of dissection is same in adult as well as pediatric patients. Access technique, suturing knotting, dissection technique tissue retrieval techniques safe use of energy and handling the complication is same for adult as well as pediatric patients. However, during every session special consideration for pediatric cases will be discussed. We have not made a prospectus separately for pediatric surgeons but we do take care of every pediatric surgeons in a manner that after finishing the course they will be able to perform surgery themselves on their pediatric patients. |
