Current Job profile and Career intentions
Unit lead for minimal access surgery in Gynaecology- In this role I have developed unit guidelines on endometriosis and facilitated joint working with the colorectal surgeons. I have introduced newer procedures into clinical practice such as laparoscopic myomectomies and laparoscopic sub-total hysterectomies. Most of my hysterectomy cases are performed laparoscopically.
Clinical Risk lead- I oversee weekly incident reports and facilitate appropriate response including case reviews and high level investigations.
I have completed the Advanced training skills Modules in Minimal Access Surgery (MAS). I am also competent in out- patient hysteroscopy and ultrasound scanning of Gynaecology patients. I am keen to use these skills to develop services in benign Gynaecology. I believe that Minimal access surgery is an essential skill in modern day Gynaecology and offers many benefits to the patient and the hospital.
I am keen to learn newer techniques in minimal access surgery that improve patient outcome and efficiency. I envisage myself leading and developing services in Minimal access surgery. I enjoy being a clinical tutor and hope to be able to teach my trainees to a high standard.
Research:
- MSc dissertation ( on going ) -An audit of factors affecting mode of hysterectomy
- RCT for prolapse surgery. My role as research fellow was recruiting patients, liaising with different centers and publication of the proposal.
- I have written and published review articles on Endometriosis and vulvar problems in menopausal women.
- I have conducted and presented the findings of a questionnaire survey of fourth year medical students at the RCOG international congress in Montreal, Canada
The aim of this study was to assess the influence midwives have over their
clinical experience in Obstetrics.
- I have an MD degree from Calcutta University, India. My MD thesis was on a research project titled “A Study of Gynaecological Problems in Perimenarchal and Teenage Girls”.
