Laparoscopic Myomectomy, also known as da Vinci Robotic Myomectomy, is a surgical procedure that involves the removal of fibroids through small incisions in the abdomen. It is recommended for those who are experiencing problems due to fibroids but want to preserve their uterus. Fibroids can cause a range of issues including pelvic pain, pressure, heavy menstrual bleeding, urinary frequency, and incontinence, which can significantly affect daily life. If a patient experiences such symptoms, doctors may suggest a laparoscopic myomectomy to alleviate them.

Why is Laparoscopic Myomectomy done?

Laparoscopic Myomectomy is a surgical procedure performed to remove fibroids from the uterus through small abdominal incisions. This procedure is typically recommended for women who are experiencing symptoms due to fibroids, but who want to preserve their uterus. Fibroids are noncancerous growths that develop in the uterus and can cause problems such as heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain or pressure, and urinary incontinence.

During the procedure, the surgeon makes a few small incisions in the abdomen and inserts a laparoscope (a thin, flexible tube with a camera and light at the end) and other specialized instruments. The surgeon then uses these instruments to remove the fibroids from the uterus. The procedure is typically done under general anesthesia, and most patients can go home the same day or the following day.

Laparoscopic Myomectomy is a minimally invasive surgery that has several advantages over traditional open surgery, including a faster recovery time, less pain, and a shorter hospital stay. However, it is important to note that not all women are candidates for this procedure and that the decision to undergo Laparoscopic Myomectomy should be made in consultation with a qualified surgeon. Laparoscopic Myomectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to remove fibroids from the uterus. The procedure is performed through small incisions in the abdomen, and it involves the use of a laparoscope - a thin tube with a camera and light attached to it.

During the procedure, the surgeon makes small incisions in the abdomen and inserts the laparoscope and other specialized instruments to locate and remove the fibroids. The procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia and requires an overnight stay in the hospital.

Laparoscopic Myomectomy is often recommended for women who have symptomatic fibroids, such as heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, or pressure. It is also a good option for women who want to preserve their uterus and maintain their fertility.

Some of the benefits of Laparoscopic Myomectomy include smaller incisions, less scarring, less pain, and a shorter recovery time compared to traditional open surgery. However, like any surgical procedure, there are potential risks and complications, such as bleeding, infection, and injury to surrounding organs. It is important to discuss the risks and benefits of Laparoscopic Myomectomy with your doctor and to make an informed decision based on your individual situation and preferences.

In abdominal myomectomy (laparotomy), your surgeon makes an open abdominal incision to access your uterus and remove fibroids. Your surgeon will generally prefer to make a low, horizontal ("bikini line") incision, if possible. Vertical incisions are needed for larger uteruses. What a nice video on Laparoscopic Myomectomy. Thank you Dr. Mishra for teaching doctors from all over the world.
