Laparoscopic Appendectomy in Pediatric Patient
Surgery / Feb 9th, 2022 1:44 pm     A+ | a-

This video demonstrates Laparoscopic Appendectomy in Pediatric Patient performed by Dr. R.K. Mishra at World Laparoscopy Hospital. Laparoscopic appendectomy is safe and effective in treating children with suspected appendicitis. It may be safely performed as fast-track or same-day surgery, in select children without perforated appendicitis, with a postoperative stay of ≥24 hours in the majority of such patients. The recurrence of appendicitis caused by an infection -re the usual reason for removal.  The laparoscopic technique seems to be safer than open appendectomy for acute appendicitis in children. The laparoscopic approach is most frequently used, except for young children. Superficial surgical site infections are more frequent after open surgery only in patients with complicated appendicitis. The normal appendix rate is low, most likely because of routine preoperative imaging.

Appendicitis is a painful swelling and infection of the appendix. It is a medical emergency. The appendix can burst or rupture. This is serious and can lead to more infection. If not treated, it can be fatal. The appendix is a thin, finger-shaped tube that is joined to the large intestine. It sits in the lower right part of the belly (abdomen). Experts don’t know for sure what role the appendix has in the body. It is not a vital organ. Removing it is not harmful. Surgery to remove the appendix is called an appendectomy. It is the most common type of emergency surgery for children. Most children recover with no long-term problems
