Axillary Lymph Node Resection And Thyroidectomy - Lecture By Dr R K Mishra
Axillary lymph node resection and thyroidectomy are two different surgical procedures that are performed in different parts of the body.
Axillary lymph node resection is a surgical procedure that is performed to remove lymph nodes from the armpit area (axilla). This is typically done when there is a suspicion of breast cancer or when cancer has been confirmed in the breast tissue. During the procedure, the surgeon makes an incision in the axilla and removes the lymph nodes.
Thyroidectomy, on the other hand, is a surgical procedure that is performed to remove all or part of the thyroid gland, which is located in the neck. This may be necessary if there is a suspicion of thyroid cancer or if there are nodules or an enlarged thyroid gland causing problems with breathing, swallowing or speaking. During the procedure, the surgeon makes an incision in the neck and removes the thyroid gland.
While axillary lymph node resection and thyroidectomy are two different procedures, they may be performed together in some cases. For example, if there is a suspicion of breast cancer and a suspicious nodule in the thyroid gland, both procedures may be performed during the same operation.
It is important to discuss the risks and benefits of these procedures with your healthcare provider to determine if they are the best option for your individual situation. As with any surgical procedure, there are potential risks and complications, such as bleeding, infection, and injury to surrounding structures.

Axillary lymph node resection and thyroidectomy are distinct surgical procedures, each targeting specific areas of the body. The former entails removing lymph nodes from the armpit, usually to investigate or treat breast cancer. This procedure involves an incision in the axilla and lymph node removal. In contrast, thyroidectomy focuses on the thyroid gland in the neck.
