SSI MANTRA: Made-In-India Robotic Surgery System
Robotic surgery is the type of surgical procedure that is done using robotic systems. Robotically-assisted surgery was developed to try to overcome the limitations of pre-existing minimally-invasive surgical procedures and to enhance the capabilities of surgeons performing open surgery. Surgeries using a robotic system have been conducted in India for over a decade. Government hospitals of national repute, as well as many private hospitals, have installed Da Vinci surgical systems.
MANTRA means Multi Arm Novel Tele Robotic Assistance and the company making it is, SS Innovations. ‘SS’ is Sudhir Srivastava, India-born cardiac surgeon, who went to Vancouver, Canada at the age of 21, with a medical degree from a Rajasthan-based medical college, specialized in thoracic surgery at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.
Robotic surgery in most of the hospitals of the World is currently carried out with the use of the da Vinci™ surgical system, a unique set of technologies that include specialized “arms” for holding instruments and a camera, as well as a magnified 3D screen and a console.
With Mantra Robot 18 successful surgeries have been conducted, and the cost is likely to be one-fourth of a leading global competitor. To operate using the Mantra Robotic system, the surgeon makes tiny incisions in the body and inserts miniaturized 8mm instruments and a high-definition three-dimensional camera. Then, from a nearby console, the surgeon manipulates those instruments to perform the operation.
The field of surgery has been revolutionized over the past few decades with the introduction of robotic surgery systems. These systems offer surgeons greater precision and control, leading to faster recovery times and better patient outcomes. With the market for robotic surgery systems growing at a rapid pace, new companies are emerging with innovative products that promise to further transform the field. In this article, we will explore the future of a new surgical robot company in the world and the potential impact it may have on the field of surgery.
The company we will be focusing on is a startup that has recently developed a novel robotic surgery system. The system is designed to be smaller and more affordable than existing systems, making it accessible to a broader range of healthcare providers. The system also features advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities, allowing it to learn from previous surgeries and adjust its performance to optimize patient outcomes.
The potential impact of this new system is significant. With more healthcare providers able to access robotic surgery technology, more patients will have access to the benefits of minimally invasive surgery. This includes less pain, less scarring, and faster recovery times. Furthermore, the system's advanced machine learning capabilities have the potential to improve surgical outcomes over time as it learns from past surgeries.
The company's success will depend on several factors. Firstly, they will need to demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of their system through clinical trials and studies. This will require significant investment in research and development, as well as collaboration with healthcare providers and regulatory agencies.
Secondly, the company will need to navigate a highly competitive market. Established companies such as Intuitive Surgical and Medtronic dominate the market for robotic surgery systems, and new entrants will need to offer unique value propositions to gain traction.
Finally, the company will need to develop a strong brand and marketing strategy to raise awareness of their product and differentiate themselves from competitors. This will require investment in marketing and partnerships with healthcare providers and professional associations.
Despite these challenges, the future looks bright for this new surgical robot company. With a focus on affordability, accessibility, and advanced machine learning capabilities, they are well-positioned to make a significant impact on the field of surgery. As the market for robotic surgery systems continues to grow, innovative new products like this will play a vital role in transforming healthcare and improving patient outcomes.

It is the very nice effort of an Indian Surgeon to launch an Indian Robot. Hats Off to Dr. Sudhir Srivastava who has taken this initiative to launch Mantra Robot. Intuitive Surgical Robot is very expensive and their Monopoly should be challanged.
