After FDA warning about using morcellation for supracervical hysterectomy what we should use for Gynecologic Surgery: Morcellation. We were using morcellation for myomectomy and suracevical hysterectomy since long. The FDA recently warned against the use of electro-mechanical power morcellation for hysterectomy and myomectomy because of potential tissue splatter within the abdomen and pelvis. Please discuss this topic.... |

Ya! I am also concern about this issue of risk of morcellation. The problem is that, in most cases, we don't have a perfectly reliable way to identify patients with uterine sarcoma in the preoperative setting. |

Hi ! There is risk involved in almost every surgical procedure and same is true in case of myomectomy and hysterectomy. whether the benefit-to-harm balance is any different from other accepted laparoscopic surgical procedures and what is the real incidence of these type of complication using electrical morcellation. |

US FDA has recently allowed to safely use the morcellation by the use of New 'PneumoLiner' device. You can see their announcement here. http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/ Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/uc m494650.htm Probably this device will eliminate concern about metastasis. PneumoLiner, the first tissue containment system for use with certain laparoscopic power morcellators to isolate uterine tissue that is not suspected to contain cancer. |
