I want to know that What are the alternatives of Glycine in Operative Hysteroscopy? Glycene has a big complication of hyponitremia so I want to use alternative fluid which should be safe in operative hysteroscopy. |

Thank you Dr. srilata, Glycine metabolizes into ammonia and can cross the blood brain barrier, causing agitation, vomiting, hypothermia and coma, So In this case You can use Mannitol 5% instead of when using monopolar electrosurgical devices. Mannitol 5% has a diuretic effect and can also cause hypotension and circulatory collapse. The mannitol/sorbitol mixture (Purisol) should be avoided in patients with fructose malabsorption. |

Dear Dr Hussain, Thanks for nice explanation. But I want to know that can I use bipolar for hysteroscopy. Bipolar does not cut so I am afraid that it may not be used during resection of myoma. |

If you want further safety you can use Normal Saline with Versapoint. Versapoint does not need glycine as traditional resectoscope. This bipolar system has the potential to transform the way operative hysteroscopy is performed. It can reduce operative costs by using a single intervention to diagnose and treat surgically various uterine pathology. This system is indicated for the treatment of myomas, polyps, intrauterine adhesions, uterine septa and benign conditions using advanced technology that operates in normal saline. The GYNECARE VERSAPOINT Resectoscope permits direct viewing and access to the uterine cavity for performing hysteroscopic surgical procedures |
