Laparoscopic Myomectomy or da Vinci Robotic Myomectomy is a surgical procedure of removing fibroids through small abdominal incisions. Laparoscopic Myomectomy is suggested and advised for those who experience problems due to fibroids. This procedure is usually recommended when the woman wants the fibroids to be removed but wants to preserve the uterus. Fibroids affect daily life as they cause problems such as pelvic pain or pressure, heavy menstrual bleeding, urinary frequency, or incontinence.

What is Laparoscopic Myomectomy?

Laparoscopic myomectomy is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to remove uterine fibroids while preserving the uterus. Uterine fibroids, also known as leiomyomas, are non-cancerous growths that develop in or on the uterus. They can cause symptoms such as heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, frequent urination, and fertility issues.

How is Laparoscopic Myomectomy Performed?

During a laparoscopic myomectomy, a surgeon makes small incisions in the abdomen and inserts a thin, lighted tube called a laparoscope. This instrument provides a clear view of the uterus, allowing the surgeon to carefully remove the fibroids. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and involves the following steps:

1. Insertion of the Laparoscope – A small incision is made near the navel to insert the laparoscope.
2. Additional Incisions – Other small incisions may be made to insert surgical instruments.
3. Fibroid Removal – The fibroids are carefully dissected and removed while preserving the uterus.
4. Uterine Repair – The uterus is sutured to ensure proper healing.
5. Closure – The small incisions are closed with sutures or adhesive strips.

Benefits of Laparoscopic Myomectomy

Compared to traditional open surgery (abdominal myomectomy), laparoscopic myomectomy offers several advantages:

- Minimally Invasive – Smaller incisions result in less pain and scarring.
- Faster Recovery – Patients typically recover within 2 to 4 weeks.
- Reduced Blood Loss – Lower risk of excessive bleeding during surgery.
- Preserves the Uterus – Ideal for women who wish to conceive in the future.
- Shorter Hospital Stay – Most patients can return home the same day or within 24 hours.

Who is a Candidate for Laparoscopic Myomectomy?

Laparoscopic myomectomy is suitable for women with fibroids that are:

- Moderate in size
- Located in accessible areas of the uterus
- Causing symptoms such as pain, heavy bleeding, or infertility

However, patients with very large or numerous fibroids may require alternative surgical options such as an open myomectomy.

Recovery and Postoperative Care

After the procedure, patients may experience mild discomfort, bloating, or temporary changes in menstrual cycles. Doctors typically recommend:

- Rest and Hydration – Allowing the body to heal with proper hydration and rest.
- Pain Management – Using prescribed medications to manage discomfort.
- Avoiding Heavy Lifting – Restricting strenuous activities for a few weeks.
- Follow-Up Visits – Regular check-ups to monitor healing and recovery.

Conclusion

Laparoscopic myomectomy is an effective, minimally invasive procedure for women suffering from symptomatic fibroids. It provides relief while preserving fertility and reducing recovery time. If you experience symptoms of fibroids, consult your healthcare provider to determine the best treatment option for your condition.

Watching this video shows that Laparoscopic Myomectomy is the removal of uterine fibroids while leaving the uterus intact. It is the main treatment option for patients who would still like to conceive or prefer not to have a hysterectomy by minimally invasive procedure where small incisions are made in the abdomen over the area where the fibroid is. A camera and surgical instruments are inserted through these incisions to visualize the uterus and act.

Laparoscopic myomectomy is a surgical procedure that is used to remove uterine fibroids which are also called leiomyomas. At present, it is the most common surgical procedure in infertile patients.
This procedure is done by making small incisions in the lower abdomen. the belly is filled with carbon dioxide to help the surgeon see inside the abdomen.
