Hello my wife is been suggested for an Ovarian drilling procedure to reduce the size of ovaries. My initial concern was her lack of weight loss after a nutritionist told her she was following a correct diet and was exercising a lot. Her doctor ran some routine tests to see if she had a thyroid problem. It showed on her hormone levels that she had Polycystic Ovary syndrome which wasn't much of a concern to me as we already have a beautiful daughter and feel blessed enough with her however due to other medical problems in my family I was concerned about her weight gain and really need to help her lose some weight. After an ultrasound showed her ovaries were rather large I was referred to a consultant who told me they were ready to burst and needed immediate ovarian drilling to release the cysts. So far the only research I can find refers mainly to Ovarian Drilling and the effects it has for fertility. Is this procedure helps to aid weight loss? If so how long it takes to make a difference? I am not being conceited here, I need to help her to lose weight for medical reasons. Any advice would be appreciated thanks. |

DEAR MR SRIDHAR A PCOS is not only affecting infertility but it also has other symptoms and one of them is weight gain. This happens due to secretion of male hormone after PCOS. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common female endocrine disorders. In this disease excessive amounts or effects of androgenic male hormones, resulting in acne and hirsutism; and insulin resistance, often associated with obesity, Type 2 diabetes, and high cholesterol levels. The symptoms and severity of the syndrome vary greatly among affected women. So in our opinion you should get it treated either medical therapy or surgery but treatment should be done. Thanks a lot Dr. M K Gupta for responding quickly. On medical therapy side, what options do I have to get PCOS treated? My wife is going for birth control surgery this week, Can Overian drilling procedure will also be performed at the same time? Is it suggested? Really appreciate your suggestion on this. |
