Dear Aditi You should go for laparoscopic cholecystecxtomy to get your gallbladder removed. The surgery to remove the gallbladder is called a cholecystectomy (chol-e-cys-tec-to-my). In old time the gallbladder was removed through a 5 to eight inch long incision, or cut, in your abdomen. The cut is created just below your ribs around the right side and would go to just beneath your waist. This is known as open cholecystectomy. A less invasive way to remove the gallbladder is known as laparoscopic cholecystectomy. This surgery uses a laparoscope (a musical instrument accustomed to see the inside your body) to get rid of the gallbladder. It is performed through several small incisions rather than through one large incision. A laparoscope is a small, thin tube that is put into your body through a tiny cut made just below your navel. Your surgeon may then call at your gallbladder on the television screen and perform the surgery with tools inserted in three other small cuts produced in the best upper a part of your abdomen. Your gallbladder will be removed through one of the incisions. With laparoscopic cholecystectomy, you may go back to work sooner, have less pain after surgery, and have a shorter stay in hospital along with a shorter time to recover. Surgery to remove the gallbladder having a laparoscope does not require the muscles of the abdomen be slashed, because they are in open surgery. The incision is much smaller, making recovery go quicker. With laparoscopic cholecystectomy, you probably will only have to stay in the hospital overnight. With open cholecystectomy, you would have to stay in a healthcare facility for about five days. Because the incisions are smaller with laparoscopic cholecystectomy, there isn't as much pain following this operation as after open cholecystectomy. With regards M.K. Gupta |
