Hi there - I have been tentatively diagnosed with endometriosis as of May 2015. I say tentatively because I was living in Los Angeles for a few years and these symptoms (explained below) began July of 2014. I moved from LA to Dubai in July 2015 and have not seen a doctor here to confirm this diagnosis. Below, I am recounting my experience/issues so far for a proper idea of what is going on with me, and whether I should visit WLH. I have never had an issue with period pain as such until June 2014. I was on the Nuvaring birth control from Jan 2014, until July 2014. In August 2014, I visited a gynaecologist in Dubai for severe constipation only during my period (no matter what I ate or what supplements I took) and more increased pain than usual. She informed me (during an ultrasound) that I had a retroverted uterus and that may be the reason why my periods are painful. From September 2014-November 2014 I used the pill instead of Nuvaring as my birth control in hopes that it would help with the dysmenorrhea - it didn't. I had a hormone test and a thyroid test done (in LA), and both came out normal. From January 2015 I stopped any form of birth control, but the pain during menses became quite unbearable. I would sometimes not even be able to stand up if I had a painful cramp and even if I drank mostly liquids and had smoothies/other soft liquids only during my period, it would be difficult to have bowel movements because of the pain. The pain was not inear the rectal area, but it felt like regular period cramps except more severe. I would sometimes even feel pain when food was being digested. Finally, I was able to see a specialist in May (in LA), and this gynaecologist put me back on the Nuvaring birth control plus painkiller treatment to combat my symptoms (which she believes were indicative of endometriosis). She wanted me to see how my pain was after 3-4 months of this combined treatment. I saw her after two months - the cramps had eased a little with the painkillers (600-800mg of Ibuprofen every 6 hours) but the painkillers would only help for about 3-4 hours before the pain would come back, and nothing helped the pain I experienced during bowel movements. Any peristalsis while digesting or excreting hurt excruciatingly. The doctor then said that she was pretty sure it was endometriosis, but she wanted me to continue the painkillers and Nuvaring for another month or two and see if my symptoms got better. If not, she wanted me to go for a laparoscopy. Unfortunately, I was only in LA for one more month so I couldn't continue my treatment there. I have been in Dubai since July 2015 and my menstruation cycle was as bad as the previous ones, if not worse. The painkillers were only effective for a few hours and I think I should schedule a laparoscopy. I have not consulted any doctors in Dubai, but I researched WLH and, from your website so far, your institution has made me feel more at ease about potentially getting a surgery (never had any sort of surgery before). I would like to visit WLH and potentially have my surgery done there - where do I go from here? |
