In this video, you will witness a Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy procedure for the treatment of a mucocele of the gallbladder. It is important to differentiate a mucocele of the gallbladder from other gallbladder conditions, and acute percutaneous drainage or cholecystectomy is typically the first line of treatment.
The diagnosis of a mucocele of the gallbladder should be suspected by both the surgeon and radiologist. While medical management has been reported, cholecystectomy is the most common and effective treatment for gallbladder mucoceles. However, there is limited data comparing medical and surgical management.
During the Laparoscopic management of the Mucocele of the Gallbladder, a small incision is made below the rib cage on the right side of the abdomen. The liver is moved to expose the gallbladder, and the vessels and cystic duct and artery to and from the gallbladder are cut. The gallbladder is then removed, and Mishra's knot is used to ligate the cystic duct.
This procedure is a minimally invasive surgical technique that offers benefits such as smaller incisions, less scarring, reduced pain, and a shorter recovery time compared to traditional open surgery.
This video shows a Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy procedure for Mucocele of the Gallbladder. Mucocele of the Gallbladder is a condition that needs to be differentiated from other gallbladder disorders. Typically, the first line of treatment is acute percutaneous drainage or cholecystectomy. Both the surgeon and radiologist must consider this diagnosis. While there have been some rare cases of medical management, cholecystectomy is the most common treatment for Gallbladder mucoceles (GBM). However, medical and surgical treatments have not been directly compared in terms of efficacy.
During Laparoscopic management of the Mucocele of the Gallbladder, a small incision is made below the rib cage on the right side of the abdomen. The surgeon moves the liver to expose the gallbladder. The vessels, cystic duct, and artery leading to and from the gallbladder are cut, and the gallbladder is removed. To ligate the cystic duct, the surgeon uses a technique called Mishra's knot.
Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy is a minimally invasive procedure that offers several advantages over traditional open surgery, including smaller incisions, less scarring, reduced blood loss, and a faster recovery time. It is important to note that all surgical procedures carry some risk of complications, such as bleeding, infection, or injury to nearby organs. However, with proper technique and careful patient selection, the risks of complications can be minimized.
