Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery
Dear Member,

With the Holidays and Happy New Year just around the corner, we would like to let you know about some good things to look forward to in the New Year. Have a sneak peek new series of VATS videos in high definition at WLH website and some of the new features of WLH mobile application that will not only improve your learning of laparoscopic surgery but also add significant insight into your decision-making process while performing.

Traditionally, thoracic surgery in open surgical era is performed for diagnosis or treatment of chest conditions has required access to the chest through thoracotomy or sternotomy incisions. Sternotomy requires the use of a sternal saw to divide and fracture the sternum and requires spreading of the divided portions of the sternum with a sternal retractor to allow for visualization of the thoracic structures, passage of instruments into the chest, and removal of specimens.

Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) is a type of thoracic surgery performed using a small video camera that is introduced into the patient's chest via a scope. The surgeon is able to view the instruments that are being used along with the anatomy on which the surgeon is operating.

Thank you to everyone in the community for your continued support. For the forthcoming festive season, we wish you a Merry Christmas and happiness, health and much success in the New Year.
