Dear Adnan Yakub The course and harshness of pigment loss differ with every person. Generally, vitiligo begins in a small area. With time, other spots can happen, while existing spots may grow larger. Many people observe that their vitiligo may stay for a long time or even decades, after which suddenly new areas of depigmentation may occur. Occasionally, vitiligo patches will repigment spontaneously, all by themselves, with no treatment whatsoever. Many people with vitiligo do notice this happening at some point or any other. In many, but certainly not all cases, vitiligo does progress slowly over time, but there's really not a way to tell whether your vitiligo will progress or not. It's a slow progressing condition however, and many patients are convinced that they may go many years without new patches developing, after which may discover new patches appearing years later. Many people even report spots that spontaneously repigment, with no treatment at all. Use of technology however, might be able to arrest new spots within their development. Your question was how many types of Vitilligo Segmental vitiligo Many people develop vitiligo only in one or perhaps a few limited regions of their body. This is called segmental vitiligo. People with vitiligo may have a mixture of segmental and generalized vitiligo. Generalized vitiligo Most people discover that their vitiligo develops inside a generalized way, very often with bilateral characteristics, and therefore if your vitiligo patch appears on a single elbow, it frequently appears alternatively elbow comparable time. Any part of the body may be affected. Common sites are exposed areas (face, neck, eyes, nostrils, nipples, navel, genitalia), body folds (armpits, groin), sites of injury (cuts, scrapes, burns) and around pigmented moles |
