i am 21 years old. i have no children but had an abortion in febuary 2011. presently i am having severe back pain with mild bleeding. i am also feeling movements in my lower abdomen. my last menstrual date was 9th march 2012. i am wondering, am i maybe pregnant or is it another medical problem. |

Dear kenny Your symptoms may be due to pregnancy but to confirm you should immediately get one pregnancy test either by urine or by blood. Home pregnancy tests are urine tests. They detect the amount of hCG in your urine, only if this reaches a certain level. Some home pregnancy tests tend to be more sensitive than the others. More sensitive tests might be able to detect lower levels of hCG a couple of days before your period arrives. However, whether you utilize an ordinary or a more sensitive home pregnancy test, if you use it too early during pregnancy the quantity of hCG in your urine may not be sufficient for a positive result. Just about all urine pregnancy tests will give you accurate results should you test around time your period would normally be due; about fourteen days once you ovulate. An evaluation might be negative for several reasons: you may not be pregnant, or you might have ovulated later than you thought (and so not be far enough along for the test to detect your hCG). In a tiny number of women, hCG levels can be quite low which could also affect the results of pregnancy tests. The blood test for pregnancy measures the amount of hCG inside your bloodstream, not your urine. Blood tests can measure much smaller levels of the hormone, and so can detect pregnancy sooner than urine tests, usually about 6 to 8 days after ovulation. However, these are only available through your doctor who's unlikely to provide one if you don't have pressing medical reasons to know quickly whether or not you are pregnant. With regards M.K.
