Dear Anjali

Even though cause of irregular bleeding can vary based on individual health situations, some of the more common causes include:

Implantation Bleeding/Pregnancy
Miscarriage
Hormonal fluctuations
Starting, stopping, or missing oral contraceptives or estrogens
Low thyroid levels
Stress
IUDs occasionally cause slight spotting
Problems for the vagina from insertion of objects
Malignant cancers
Undiagnosed vaginal infections
Certain drugs, particularly anticoagulants Vaginal dryness
GYN procedures
Some women have spotting during ovulation, which is normal

Bed rest might be recommended if between period bleeding is heavy. Use your menstrual cycle calendar to record the amount of tampons or pads you utilize. These details helps your doctor see whether you're bleeding excessively.

Unless your doctor specifically advises otherwise, never take aspirin while you are menstruating. Aspirin can cause bleeding to happen longer and heavier.

Of course, you should consult and tell your nearest gynecologists about any bleeding or spotting between periods that you simply experience.

Sakila

Dear Sakila

Amenorrhea can result because of an abnormality in the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis, anatomical abnormalities of the genital tract, or functional causes.

Hypothalamic causes
•Craniopharyngioma (a brain tumor near the pituitary gland)
•Teratoma (a tumor made up of a mixture of tissues)
•Sarcoidosis (a chronic disease of unknown cause characterized by the formation of nodules in different parts of the body)
•Kallmann syndrome (deficiency of gonadotropins, which are hormones capable of promoting growth and function of reproductive organs)
•Nutritional deficiency
•Low body weight or growth delay

Pituitary causes
•Prolactinemia (high blood levels of prolactin, a hormone that stimulates secretion of milk from the breasts during breastfeeding) - possibly caused by prolactinoma (a tumor of the pituitary gland secreting the hormone prolactin)
•Other pituitary tumors (for example, Cushing syndrome, acromegaly, or thyroid-stimulating hormone)
•Postpartum pituitary necrosis (death of pituitary cells after a woman delivers a baby)
•Autoimmune hypophysitis (cells of the pituitary gland destroyed by the body’s own defense system)
•Pituitary radiation
•Sarcoidosis

Ovarian causes
•Anovulation (lack of the release of an egg)
•Hyperandrogenemia (high blood levels of male hormones)
•Polycystic ovary syndrome (hormonal disorder affecting women of reproductive age)
•Premature ovarian failure
•Turner syndrome (a genetic disorder characterized by underdeveloped ovaries, absence of menstrual onset, and short stature)
•Pure gonadal dysgenesis (defective development of the ovary)
•Autoimmune oophoritis (cells of the ovaries destroyed by the body’s own defense system)
•Fragile X premutation
•Radiation or chemotherapy
•Galactosemia (an inherited disorder in which galactose, a type of sugar, accumulates in the blood)
•Anatomical abnormalities of the genital tract
• Intrauterine adhesions (the opposing surfaces of the uterine cavity stick together)
•Imperforate hymen (a hymen in which there is no opening, the membrane completely closes off the vagina)
•Transverse vaginal septum (a dividing wall or membrane in the vagina)
•Aplasia (absence of an organ or tissue) of the vagina, the cervix, or the uterus

Hi,
Im 23 years old.I have irregular periods and got diagnosed with PCOD two years back. My doctor advised to take full hormone analysis and my hormone levels turned up satisfactory. I was told that I am on the initial stages of PCOD and should take medicines and follow a moderately strict diet. I have been taking ayurvedic medicines since a year back and my doctor advised to stop medication after getting 4-5 regular periods. My periods are regular for the past 9 months and follow 28 days cycle...5 months with medicines and 4 without medicines. But now again I haven't had my periods since May. Had my last period on April 18th..but no signs till now.Im tensed as im getting married in two months. Will that affect my married life?? Are there any possibilities that it may get cured after marriage??
Plz give ur valuable advise.

Dear Azeefa

If medical treatment of PCOD does not work than you can opt for ovarian drilling. Laparoscopic ovarian drilling is a surgical treatment that can trigger ovulation in women who have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Electrocautery or a laser is used to destroy parts of the ovarian cysts.

How can this syndrome can be treated?I am neither an obese or suffering from any other health problems. I consulted different doctors and had ayurvedic, homeopathic and other kinds of treatment. please help me out with this.Do i have to take these pills throughout my life?

Dear Mrs Singh

Laparoscopic Ovarian drilling is a good option of PCOS when other treatment fail. You should try to consult a laparoscopic surgeon or you can come to World Laparoscopy Hospital for this surgery.

I am 21 years old. My period is often irregular. Though i never missed it for a whole month but still it comes in 43-46 days or at an avarage of 36 days for the last one year. Other symptoms are as usual.
My question is : can it be harmfull in longer time in terms of pregnancy or lifestyle disease.

Dear rani
Menstrual cycle varies from woman to woman. If you are not having other symptoms and getting your periods than its ok. This cycle are controlled by different hormones so as long as you are not missing it is ok.
