I am having pain and swelling in my both testicles. Are there any medications that can help with the pain and swelling? Will I need surgery, and if so, what does the surgery entail? |

Pain and swelling in both testicles can be caused by various conditions, such as infections (like epididymitis or orchitis), trauma, testicular torsion, or even more chronic conditions like varicocele or hydrocele. It is crucial to determine the underlying cause to choose the appropriate treatment. Medications To manage pain and swelling, the following medications may help: Pain Relievers: Over-the-counter pain medications like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can help alleviate pain and reduce inflammation. Antibiotics: If an infection is causing the pain and swelling, a course of antibiotics prescribed by your doctor will be necessary. Anti-inflammatory Medications: Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can help reduce inflammation and swelling. Supportive Care: Wearing supportive underwear or a jockstrap can help alleviate discomfort by supporting the testicles. Surgery Surgery may be necessary depending on the diagnosis: Varicocele: If a varicocele is causing pain and swelling, a varicocelectomy may be performed. This involves tying off the affected veins to redirect blood flow. Hydrocele: For a hydrocele, where fluid accumulates around the testicle, a hydrocelectomy can be performed to remove the fluid and prevent recurrence. Testicular Torsion: This is a medical emergency where the testicle twists, cutting off its blood supply. Surgery is needed immediately to untwist the testicle and restore blood flow. Epididymitis/Orchitis: If antibiotics do not resolve the infection or if an abscess forms, surgery might be necessary to drain the abscess or remove the affected tissue. |
