Dear Krish The surgery to get rid of the gallbladder is called a cholecystectomy. During traditional surgery, the gallbladder is taken away through a 5- to 8-inch-long incision in your abdomen. The cut is made just beneath your ribs on the right side and would go to just beneath your waist. This is known as an open cholecystectomy. A more recent way to remove the gallbladder is known as laparoscopic cholecystectomy. During this surgery, a laparoscope, a little, thin tube with a camera on the tip from it which is used to determine the inside of your bod y is used to remove the gallbladder. Several small incisions are utilized rather than one large incision. |
