a doctor has said after laprascopic gall bladder removal that I have a large hiatial hernia. Sometimes when I eat my food won't go down, and when I go to cough or vomit the food a mass of clear congealed liquid comes out partially jelled, and after this I can eat successfully. What causes this? |

Dear Doris Young You need to get your hiatus hernia repaired by laparoscopic surgery. Hiatal hernias are often be treated through heartburn or acid reflux medications as a first step toward relief. In some cases, medications designed to reduce the production of acid in the stomach such as Zantac, Tagamet, or Pepcid may offer some relief, but again, don't offer a cure for the condition. Prescription forms of such types of medication may be prescribed. Individuals who do not find relief through heartburn or acid reflux medications will benefit from hiatal hernia surgery, especially those diagnosed with gastroesophageal reflux disease.
