My daughter is 3.75 years old and she was just diagnosed with this condition. We had an MRI scan done which shows a cyst which is about 6.75 cm X 3 cm. We have been advised by the pediatrician that the cyst will need to removed. We are Americans currently living in Dubai. There is a lack of specialists in this region and we are looking for a surgeon who has had experience in treatment of gall bladder related ailment in kids. It would helpful if you could provide us more information if you have child specialists for this type of operation. I would prefer minimal invasive surgery for our child. We can send you the medical reports and MRI scan images if necessary. Please let us know if you can help us out. |

Dear Sadiq Das We can perform surgery for choledocal cyst for your child. Please send all the MRI reports of your child. Total excision of the cyst with adequate bile drainage is the standard treatment for choledochal cyst. However, in the setting of extensive inflammation, a cyst mucosectomy and cystoenterostomy can be performed. The control over choledochal cysts has evolved during the last Thirty years. Today, complete excision from the cyst and biliary bypass have grown to be the treatment of choice. Other procedures, such as cystoduodenostomy or cystojejunostomy, have been related to high morbidity rates and also the possibility of malignant transformation in the residual cyst. Even after complete excision, sporadic cases of cancer within the remaining biliary tree happen to be reported within the last decade. Only thing you should always keep in mind that sometime it is necessary to open the abdomen while doing laparoscopy. With regards M.K. Gupta |
