My wife was diagnosed with PCOS since one and half year, later on on November 12.2011, she get surgery for ovarian drilling at the first month LH surge kit showed that ovulation is occurring and in this month LH surge kit indicate that ovulation can occur on 22-25.Dec.2011, while in ultrasound we couldn't found mature follicle to be released, just 2 questions. 1. Is it possible to give positive result for LH surge while no mature follicle is found in ultrasound. 2. After Ovarian drilling, when can i expect ovulation and pregnancy (normally) Regards Popal/Afghansitan |

Dear Mr. Popal Although laparoscopic ovarian drilling (LOD) continues to be popular to induce ovulation in females with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), predicting the clinical response to this treatment remains to be elucidated further. Many research were carried out to recognize factors that might help to calculate the end result of LOD. METHODS: The influence of the various patients' pre-operative characteristics around the ovulation and pregnancy rates after LOD was evaluated. In addition, women were split into two or three categories according to the harshness of each of the various clinical and biochemical parameters of PCOS. The success were compared between the categories of each factor using contingency table analyses. Multiple logistic regression analysis was used to recognize independent predictors of success of LOD. In summary the result depends on many factor as women with body mass index (BMI) =35?kg/m2, serum testosterone concentration =4.5?nmol/l, free androgen index (FAI) =15 and/or with amount of infertility >3 years seem to be poor responders to LOD. In LOD responders, serum LH levels >10?IU/l appeared to be associated with higher pregnancy rates. So my friend, Marked obesity, marked hyperandrogenism and/or long amount of infertility in females with PCOS appear to predict potential to deal with LOD. High LH levels in LOD responders appear to predict higher possibility of pregnancy. With regards M.K. Gupta |

Unfortunatley you may well have to rely on stimulation of your ovreias with Clomid (many women rely on this and it is very successfull). Your doctor may also discuss a drug called Metformin with you. So we're not talking major fertility treatment like IVF or any other procedures, just tablets or injections. Of course go ahead and try naturally, that might work too. Usually with PCOS cases, unlike unexplained infertility, they can tell very quickly with some blood tests that you are not ovlating, and you will be given treatment, they wont make you try naturally for a year before they investigate, as they already know what the problem is. Dont worry, PCOS doesnt mean you cant have children. |
