Dear Peter Sansui Using robotics in surgery is an emerging field. Robot-assisted laparoscopic adrenalectomy has been performed in small numbers worldwide. Benefits of robotic assistance over conventional laparoscopy are not acknowledged. Improvement in robotic technology, including addition of tactile feedback, miniaturization of end-effectors, reduced cost, and advances in remote surgery telecommunication technology are awaited. Adrenalectomy refers back to the surgical removal of the adrenal gland. Depending on the location and also the preference of the surgeon, this can be done using robot-assisted or traditional laparoscopic techniques. How's a laparoscopic or robotic adrenalectomy performed? 1.This process is conducted under general anesthesia. 2.Four-to-five small incisions will be converted to the abdomen to give the surgeon use of the whole cavity. 3.The adrenal gland is visualized using the magnification from the camera so it could be dissected and removed via a small abdominal incision. 4.The adrenal gland is freed from surrounding tissues. Blood vessels towards the adrenal gland are visualized and clipped. Do you know the advantages of non-invasive adrenalectomy? As with kidney surgery, these less-invasive techniques allow for equal disease control with smaller incisions, less scarring, less pain, and quicker recovery. Just how long will it take to recover?
