I recently worked at a job that required heavy lifting. I injured my hand also. Ever since I have felt like something is "stuck" just below my ribs. It's very tender and the pain does not go away. Acid reflux all the way into my mouth is constant and nothing helps. No prescriptions or over the counter meds help. I eat or drink a very small amount and I feel like my stomach could explode. Incredible pressure and a burning type pain. I've been burping and hiccupping a lot. Sometimes my heart races for a few seconds. Since yesterday I've had shortness of breath and my chest under my sternum is hurting worse and worse. It's never hurt before. It feels like pills get stuck in back of throat. It feels like thick mucus in the back of my throat when I swallow. I can't afford to go to a doctor. I can't play with my kids and do normal daily activities. Could this be a hiatal hernia that required surgery? What should I do? |

Dear Melinda It could be hiatal hernia or just GERD butit will not be nice to give you diagnosis without some investigation. You should consult a good gastroenterologist and get one upper GI endoscopy performed to diagnose real problem of retrosternal discomfort. UGI endoscopy is a very safe investigation and it will give you correct diagnosis of your problem. With regards M.K. Gupta |
