Hello, when I was doing abdominal crunches with weights about 1.5 years ago, I felt a sudden squishy tear from my abdomen. I was in a lot of pain in my core area for the following couple of months. I do not have insurance, thus could not go to the ER. At a later time, a doctor, without x-rays performed a physical and said I have a sports/inguinial hernia. I can go without surgery, however sometimes the pain really limits my movements during sports. I am a 31 year old male. How would I know if I can be a candidate for Laparoscopic incisional hernia repair, and how much does this cost without insurance? Please advise. Thank you.

Dear Damian

Laparoscopic hernia repair is similar to other laparoscopic procedures. General anesthesia is offered, and a small incision is created in or just underneath the navel. The abdomen is inflated with carbon dioxide so that the surgeon can easily see the abdominal organs.

A thin, lighted scope known as a laparoscope is inserted with the incision. The laparoscopic instruments to correct the hernia are inserted through other small incisions in the lower abdomen. Mesh will be placed over the defect to strengthen the abdominal wall.

At our World Laparoscopy hospital Laparoscopic repair of inguinal hernia will cost you 65,000 rupees.
