Dear Mr Singh In our opinion you are suffering from umbilical hernia which appears as an outward bulging or protrusion of the abdominal lining or part of the abdominal organ through the area around the belly button. There is a soft swelling over the belly button that often bulges when the baby sits up, cries, or strains. The bulge may be flat when the infant lies on the back and is quiet. A hernia can vary in width from less than 1 centimeter to more than 5 centimeters. An umbilical hernia occurs when part of the intestine protrudes through an opening in the abdominal muscles. Umbilical hernia is a common and typical condition. Umbilical hernias can affect adults and hernia may be especially evident when the when there is increased intra-abdominal pressure which causes bellybutton to protrude. With regards J.S. Chowhan |

Hernia is a sac formed by the lining of the abdominal cavity (peritoneum). The sac comes through a hole or weak area in the fascia, the strong layer of the abdominal wall that surrounds the muscle. . |
