Am a 22 year old gal. I have a mole on my left hand which is very small and the mole appeared on my skin some 8 years ago i think. From the past 2 months or so i was observing that the shape of the mole have become slightly different. And one day unknowingly i scratched on the mole, I was surprised to see that half of the mole has come out very easily, causing a very small amount of bleeding, leaving the other half mole as it is. The other day when i checked it, the other half mole also seemed to be getting separated from the skin. I removed it very easily from my skin. The mole was completely gone leaving the place where i had the mole to look just like the other skin, and there is no sign of any mole at that place, except tiny normal scar. How can a mole go off so easily which i was having it from many years. I haven't seen anything like this before. Please advice me, is there anything i need to be worried about?? |

Dear Prasanna Moles, also known as melanocytic naevi, are usually small skin lesions that are usually brown or dark coloured. They are a collection of cells called melanocytes, which produce the pigment (colour) in your skin. Most moles are harmless, and many of them degrade if there is any injury over these moles. May be without your knowledge your mole got some injury and started degenerating. You should not worry but in a few rare cases they can develop into malignant melanoma, which is an aggressive form of skin cancer. So if this mole again re-appear then please consult a skin specialist immediately. With regards M.K. Gupta |
