I am a 47 years old female having periods with excessive bleeding and been recommended for hysterectomy. I am one year old stroke patient too and on medication of Warfarin with 6mg daily dose in addition to other BP and vitamins dosage. Is it possible to go for LAVH and if so how safe it is under Warfarin treatment. Please respond to my email address. |

Dear Ghazala A Pervez Patients requiring chronic anticoagulation are theoretically at increased risk for hemorrhage or thromboembolism perioperatively. Experience with laparoscopic surgery in patients on chronic warfarin is limited. But recent study has shown that Laparoscopic hysterectomy surgery in patients requiring chronic anticoagulation therapy can be performed safely if it is stopped at time. The risk of intraoperative bleeding is not increased, although the incidence of postoperative bleeding as well as transfusions is higher. With regards Sadhana |
