Dear Manoj As the existence of sludge within the gallbladder is really a step in the operation of forming gallstones, having sludge from the gallbladder does not necessarily mean gallstones are inevitable. Sludge and even tiny stones may move through the bile duct and cause typical gallbladder pain symptoms, or they might cause no symptoms at all. The incidental finding of sludge while on an X-ray [done for the next reason] does not indicate the requirement for surgery. Located relating to the liver and intestines, the gallbladder can be an organ that stores bile from the liver until it is released into the intestine (via the bile duct) to complete its part in digestion. If the gallbladder does not empty completely, cholesterol monohydrate crystals, calcium bilirubinate, or other calcium salts from the bile can thicken, forming sludge. So in our opinion you should wait and watch and repeat your ultrasound again. With regards J S Chowhan |
