I was detected with uterine fibroids at the time of my first pregnancy in 1990. I had a c-section with vertical scar on the abdomen. the fibroids have multiplied over the years. I am thinking of going for hysterectomy of uterus. I have consulted few doctors for the same. All of them have different opinion. One says I can wait as my menopause id near as my FSH is high. Another says I should go for laparoscopic surgery. Yet another says I should go for abdomen open surgery as I had a c-section and big scar.I am confused. Please advise the best course of action. |

Dear Mrs Gandhi You did not write your age. In general it is important that, uterine fibroids in most of the woman cause no problems and seldom require any surgical treatment. Medical therapy and few minimal access surgical procedures can shrink or remove fibroids if you have discomfort or troublesome symptoms. Rarely, fibroids can require any emergency surgical treatment if they cause sudden, sharp pelvic pain. However, if the fibroids are near the uterine cervix, fibroids of uterus can make childbirth difficult and can lead to hemorrhage during delivery or abortion. If the fibroid will block the Fallopian tube, they can cause sterility. In my opinion you should wait and watch rather than going for any surgery. With regard J S Chowhan |
