Polyp colon

Recently my mother has been admitted into a Columbia Asia hospital for pain in upper abdomen In Columbia Asia hospital at Kolkata. Endoscopy, USG of upper abdomen and colonoscopy has been done. They diagnosed gastritis (chronic) and 6/7 colon polyps and the size of them is not more than 1 cm and severe colitis. During colonoscopy procedure they could not remove the polyps because she was not under anesthesia but did the biopsy and it came non malignant. The doctors gave medication for colitis and advised to wait for three months for the colitis treatment and the polyps should be removed to avoid further complicacy in future. My mother is 80 years old, having heart condition like Bifascicular block and a calcium plaque in Aorta (CT Angio done in 2004). Also have mild dementia (MRI done Sept 2013 showing few tiny lacunar infracts at right basal ganglia and upper paraventricular white matter and confluent larger chronic ischaemic foci at bilateral mainly parietal and frontal deep white matter regions having features of mild diffuse cerebral atrophy (more of central type). Under this situation, I am really confused whether or not I will proceed for her colon polyp removal. There may be some issue /risk from anesthesia or polypectomy specially when her age is concerned and on the other hand, if the polyps left untreated it can become malignant in future. I therefore request for an advice in this matter from your gastroenterology department after reviewing all her reports which I will send you after getting your response of this email. You understand that as I am living in US and my mother lives in India and I am planning to go to India for two weeks and want to get her treatment done by that time. To do so, I need to plan accordingly specially if want to do it out of my home town. I am eagerly waiting for your response whether any evaluation can be done from your end based on the reports that I will send to you so that I can plan my visit to Indian preferably in Feb and take my mother to your place for treatment. |

Dear Mr Reneshwar We can give you the exact advice after seeing the CD of colonoscopy and biopsy report but at this age it is better to manage her colitis by medical management. With regard J S Chowhan |
