Hi doctor! I am having morbid obesity and my BMI according to doctors here in Kuwait is 48. I heard about gastric plication. I want to know what is the difference in gastric plication and sleeve gastrectomy and which surgery will be better for me. Thank you very much in advance. |

Dear Imtiyaz The basic difference between sleeve gastrectomy and gastric plication is that in the first the stomach is cut and removed and in the second it is sewn. In both the capacity of stomach is reduced to less than one fourth of normal. Sleeve gastrectomy is prefered over plication because in the later the development of any ulcer or cancer can be missed in the plicated stomach.
