I have had chronic pain since I had a laparotomy to repair a hernia a few years ago. I take painkillers but they don't do much good. The pain is just below the scar where I was split open and it feels like my gut is being strangled, which in turn makes it impossible to relax, which only makes the pain increase. |

Dear John Docherty The reason of your pain may be post operative neuralgic pain. This pain is due to some nerve entrapment or division of nerve fibers during surgery. Sometimes adhesion formation after open surgery can cause pain. The treatment of adhesions is Diagnostic laparoscopy and adhesiolysis. Thanks With Regards Dr J S Chowhan |
