My name is Satrughna Shyamal age (26) I have suffered from heartburn for 4-5 years but it was mild. But after 2 years he becomes more severe. He always regurgitates food and liquids after eating and between them. I visited fortis and Apollo, they told me this is GERD and they gave me PPIs and other medications. The medications lower my acid level but do not control my spitting up. I have lost my weight about 7 kg in 1 year. I visited CMC Vellore again (in December 2013) again they gave me PPI and another tablet, but again they did the same by lowering my acid level but not controlling my regergitation also after stopping the medicine, the acid enters my mouth now I always feel uncomfortable on my stomach in the afternoon and at night as well. I enclose a total report that I have visited with different doctors. I want to go for surgery. Suggest an appointment so that I can visit your hospital and get well soon. I have some questions:- How successful is Gerd's surgery? Can I go back to my normal work and food after surgery and how long does gerd's surgery last? |

Dear Satrughna Shymal You may be suffering from GERD and the indication for fundoplication is to establish that the esophagus is exposed and in contact with gastric juices for longer duration by doing 24 hrs pH monitoring and to do manometric studies to evaluate the tone of gastroesophageal sphincter and motility of esophgus body.So before surgery these tests are mandatory. You may come to our hospital on any working day with all the reports. The Laparoscopic fundoplication is very successful surgery and you can return back to your normal work. After surgery the patient is adviced to eat small frequent diets. Thanks With Regards Dr J S Chowhan |
