My Mother was having continuous periods for around 2 weeks. We got her to a Gynaec from Bombay Hospital and she advised some tests which included sonography of the abdomen and blood tests like CBC and the one for thyroid. She also prescribed some medicines to stop the bleeding and the bleeding stopped within 4-5 days time after taking the medicines. The Gynaec called up for another appointment in a week's time with all the reports. However due to financial issues at home it took more than a week to get all the tests done. In that mean time, the medicines got over and the bleeding started again. After the tests, the sonologist said there's a small lump in her womb or somewhere near it (I dont clearly remember) and advised to show the reports to the actual doctor who was treating my Mother. The Gynaec said they might need to clean my Mother's womb and send it for a test to know if it's a normal lump or formed due to cancer. Then the Gynaec advised for a pelvis sonography with a few blood tests and this time the same sonologist said there's no lump and there's only swelling which could be due to stress and that's what causes bleeding and there won't be a need for any surgery. The Gynaec and us were confused so we were advised for another sonography and this time from Bombay hospital only. But again the sonologist in Bombay hospital too said that there's just swelling. Actually the uterus is bulky and there is anterior intramural fibroid measuring 1.1cms. The Gynaec still says my Mother might need to undergo a surgery to clean the womb and if it's due to cancer, might need to go for another surgery for removing the womb. I have send you the final sonography report and just want to know if she really needs to undergo any operation or not, as both the sonologists said there isn't any need for the surgery and the problem could be solved through medicines. |

Dear Mr Saraswati You should not worry much as your mother has no symptom like bleeding or any other cancer symptom. At the time of menopause little abnormal bleeding is normal. In our opinion hysterectomy is not required at present. A Pap smear (also called a Pap test) is a screening procedure for cervical cancer. It tests for the presence of precancerous or cancerous cells on the cervix, the opening of the uterus. The pap test is a quick and simple check for changes to the cells of the cervix that may lead to cervical cancer if left untreated |

Thank you for your help. I just want to inform you that my Mother is having a lot of bleeding since yesterday. Her monthly cycle ended on the 16th of this month and since yesterday she is again having it. I am so worried about her. Why is she having it more than once in a month and what is the reason for that? Is it due to the swelling? I would like to inform you that I spoke to her doctor today morning and she said that she has spoken to her senere and as per the current sonography note my Mother doesn't needs to undergo any operation as she is not having any pain, but when I informed her about her monthly cycle, she said it's due to some hormonal issue and said might now need to undergo operation only. Till now the doctor hasn't given any medicines for the swelling or melting the fibroid whereas the sonologist said the bleeding is due to swelling. The Gynaec only speaks about undergoing an operation or nothing at all. She has not prescribed any medicines for the swelling or the fibroid yet. She has just prescribed a medicine for increasing blood and another one to control her menses. After the first appointment, she prescribed a medicine called Ovrall for 21 days i.e. one each a day and other one called Pause 500mg (Emcure) which was 3 tabs a day for 3 days and later on she asked to stop ovrall and not take it at all as it can affect the kidneys and has advised to take Pause whenever she has menses. I am too worried because my Mother is having heavy bleeding. She has probably used 3 pads or even more than that since morning today. As per you she doesn't needs operation right? But what should be done to stop the bleeding? Actually what is the reason for such kind of bleeding? Is it a symptom of cancer only? If it is, how will it be cured? Is it too dangerous? We're financially not that strong. Is the treatment too expensive? I apologize for asking so many questions together but I'm just too worried. The Gynaec is taking too much time. We're in touch with her since 3rd of March and it's almost 2 months now. Please provide me a solution for this continuous and abnormal menses. |
