Globus is a symptom that can make you feel like you have a lump in your throat. It is also called 'globus sensation'. Globus can be caused by many things, such as an increased tension of muscles or irritation in the throat. here are a few possibilities: Acid reflux: Acid reflux can cause a sensation of a lump in the throat, along with heartburn and chest pain. Lifestyle changes such as avoiding trigger foods, eating smaller meals, and avoiding lying down after eating may help. Medications like antacids or proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) may be prescribed by a doctor. Throat infection: Infections like tonsillitis or pharyngitis can cause throat pain and swelling. Treatment may involve rest, warm saltwater gargles, over-the-counter pain relievers, and antibiotics if the infection is bacterial. Allergies: Allergic reactions can cause throat swelling and discomfort. Avoiding allergens and taking antihistamines may help relieve symptoms. Severe allergic reactions may require immediate medical attention. Muscle strain: Overuse or strain of the throat muscles, often due to excessive talking or shouting, can lead to discomfort and a feeling of a lump. Resting the voice, staying hydrated, and using warm compresses may provide relief. Anxiety or stress: Stress and anxiety can sometimes cause a sensation of a lump in the throat, known as globus sensation. Techniques such as relaxation exercises, therapy, or stress management strategies may be helpful. |
